Skarloey is a station and lake on the Skarloey Railway, famous for its nearby springs. In 1965, the Duke of Sodor officially opened a loopline going around the lake. This was mainly paid for by the selling of several mines at Ward Fell to the Ministry of Defence.
Translated from the ancient Sudric language, it means "Lake in the Woods".
