Repairs is the ninteenth episode of Delete the Mixed-Traffic Engine.
Between Vicarstown and Crovan's Gate, is the Vicarstown Dieselworks, which is close to the Sodor Smelters Yard, a big scrapyard overall. Delete knew he was headed there.
"So this is how it ends", he thought, "The least I can do, is savor these last moments."
But suddenly, James turned onto a transfer table.
"I guess, they'll turn me in, in parts", he sighed.
The Fat Controller was also there, waiting for him.
"Please, sir. Don't scrap me", pleaded Delete.
The Fat Controller replied, "I am not going to scrap you, but indeed repair you. I know life on the British Railways can be very tough, and so you will soon be repaired. With a new coat of paint, and set of tubes."
"All engines need overhauls, soon enough", added James, "Even I."
Delete couldn't believe it. All along, he thought he'd be scrapped if his crack got bigger, but now he was going to be repaired, so much better than scrap.
Since Autumn was under way, there was less work, even though his two goods trains were still needed.
But, the engines could manage the workload, whilst Delete was being repaired.
And meanwhile, the Fat Controller was preparing a special treat for Delete.
