Henry Tries His Best
Henry had been in Tidmouth Sheds for a long time now. All he did was watch engines go by.
He sighed, "I wonder if I'll ever be able to come out. If I'll ever get to pull trains again."
But, without his Welsh Coal he couldn't.
One day, James had to take a goods train, and Gordon was to pull the Express.
The coal hopper, and Diesel Fuel Tanker, are near, so Gordon got into a dilemma with Diesel.
"Out of my way", said Gordon, "I have to collect my train."
"Out of my way", Diesel oiled, "I have to collect some scrap."
"Then, I'm more important than you."
"Not true! Scrap is very important."
"Don't know. Just deal with it and get out of the way, you imbecile."
"Who do you call an imbecile, you idiot."
The Fat Controller saw the arguement. He said, "Bring in Henry,... and Paxton."
Henry was waken up by a start.
"Come on. We have to take the Express", said Henry's Driver.
"Why us?", asked Henry, "They know I'm not feeling well."
"Other engines are busy", explained the Fireman, "You are the only engine available."
"OK...", murmured Henry, uncertainly.
When he got to the station, the Fat Controller was pleased to see him.
"Don't worry Henry. The Express is its usual lenghth, three coaches. Just try your hardest. They're sending another engine to take over at Crovan's Gate.
"That's a long way", thought Henry, "I hope I can make it."
It was difficult without Henry's special coal. He didn't have the strength. So, he went slower than usual.
It was tough, at the hill, the couplings nearly broke, because of the strain.
At Crovan's Gate, Nix's Fireman was dealting with her fire, whilst her Driver turned on her lamp. They were to pull the Express.
When Henry pulled in, he was as exhausted as he had ever been.
Without a word, Nix pushed him into a siding and left.
"At least I made it, and tried", thought Henry silently, as he went to sleep.
