Green Arrow is an LNER Class V2 tender engine who currently resides at the National Railway Museum in York.

Bio

Green Arrow was in June 1936 at Doncaster Works from a design by Sir Nigel Gresley. He was built mainly for express freight and passenger trains He originally carried the number 637 and named after an express freight service. He was later re-numbered to 700 in April 1943 and officially LNER No. 800 in 1946. After Nationalisation, he was numbered 60800 under British Railways.

He was withdrawn from service in August 1962 but was chosen for preservation as part of the National Collection. He was restored at Doncaster Works.

In 1990, Green Arrow was at first in the works during Thomas's visit to the National Railway Museum. He later returned to working order and was selected to haul railtours to the seaside. When there were more passengers, Thomas double-headed the long train with Green Arrow. After Thomas spotted a weak embankment, the coaches were emptied, and Green Arrow pulled the empty coaches over the eroded section of track. In the end, they both returned to York safely.

He ran until 21 April 2008 when he boiler certificate expired. He had some temporary repairs in order to run and then returned to static display at the National Railway Museum in Shildon. In February 2021, he was loaned for three years to the Danum Gallery.
