Based on:

Ralph from the Snowdon Mountain Railway

Alaric is a mountain engine on the Culdee Fell Railway. Like most of the other mountain engines, he has his own coach used for passenger services.

Alaric was built at the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works in Winterthur, Switzerland in 1962 to a "super-heat" design. He arrived on Sodor in May allowing Shane Dooiney to be sent away for an overhaul.

Alaric was later mentioned in a conversation between Ernest, Wilfred, and Culdee in Mountain Engines. According to them, Alaric is "nice and quiet".

Alaric never spoke in the Railway Series, thus besides a few hints, Alaric's personality is unknown.

In Sudrian Stories, Alaric is literally nice and quiet. Nobody has ever heard Alaric speak, and people question is he really can at all. Patrick, despite being at the works when he was being built, doesn't remember him ever speak either, except for hearing him chuckle once. But, Alaric is friendly, and is quick to accept new things, even if the others are more concerned. However, Alaric's silence is quite confusing, and maybe he's not as innocent as he seems...

Alaric is based on Ralph, an engine who worked on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, he was originally called "Aylwin" when built in 1923 and was renamed "Ralph Sadler", before it was shortened to "Ralph". "Ralph" was withdrawn in 1990, and is unlikely to return to service.

Alaric is painted purple with orange lining. The number "7" is painted on the sides and back of his cab in yellow and he has red nameplates, with his name in gold, on the sides of his tanks.

He is set to appear in the second season of Sudrian Stories.
