What's worse, Dodger's repairs would be taking an extra week.
"All for a simple bufferbeam," Percy moaned.
"Good news Percy. We're to be here tomorrow, Fat Controller's orders. You'll just have to cope with this dirty situation," his Driver told him.
The next morning when he arrived, the trucks teased him.
"Percy, Percy, green and small, around the yard he'll puff and blow, but on the hill he's oh-so slow!" they sang.
"Shut up!" Percy retorted.
And he decided to just carry on.
Later, he met Bertie at the crossing lane, as he stopped to take on water.
"Hullo, Percy, how do you feel?"
"It's just coal, coal, coal, and trucks, trucks, trucks. I'm bored bored bored."
"Well, you could have a couple spins on the turntable."
"That'll just make me dizzy."
"Well, you never know when something exciting'll happen. A surprise."
"It'd be surprising, if something surprising actually happened," Percy replied.
"Hey, you! We need to get to Vicarstown. So that means you'll have to haul us all night! All night! All night! But on that hill you're still too slow!"
But he decided to just carry on.
"Too slow! All night! Tomorrow too!"
"Shut up!" Percy shouted, irritated.
"Surprise, surprise!" cheered the trucks.
Percy hurried back into the village.
"They're headed towards the Main Line. We have to stop them or they'll roll back into the village," the signalman told Sir Topham Hatt.
"Then, we'll just have to stop them. Won't we?"
The chase was on.
Bertie and the Fat Controller headed towards the hill near Ballahoo, having been at Crovan's Gate.
Percy too franticilly trying to catch up.
Some workmen in Bertie got ready to take action.
Once the trucks were stopped, they put wooden block round their wheels. The trucks were sucure at last.
"Well, what'd you think of that. A good chase is always surprising."
"You were right Bertie, an engine should never be surprised by surprise."
Then, he headed on to Crovan's Gate, where Dodger had heard all about it.
"Well, well, well. Look's like you had the ride of your life."
